VIDEO VERDICT - SO NYUH SHI DAE (소녀시대) - MR MR

Okay, so If you didn't already know, I'm into K-Pop. And one of the biggest girl groups in South Korea, Girls Generation a.k.a So Nyu Shi Dae have recently released their fourth mini album 'Mr Mr'.  With over 10,000,000 views of their latest video, and a YouTube Music Video Award for 'I Got A Boy', it's not a surprise that these girls are frontrunners of the Korean Wave (Hallyu).

A few days after the albums release they also released a music video for the title song 'Mr Mr'. I being one of the many opinionated SONE's out there decided to do a tiny analysis of their music video.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!!

Okay, so let's start with the actual music. The song in my opinion is quite a generic K-Pop song with a European Electro feel to it and a little 80's spin. The chorus is very catchy as is with most GG songs. But the harmonies that GG are renowned for a very apparent in this song, obviously Taeyeon and Tiffany lead vocal execution of the song, along with help from Seohyun, Sunny and Jessica. The rest of the members get a few lines here and there. Hyoyeon as usual gets the least lines which I personally think is a shame because I think her raspy voice is pretty unique and SM should make more use of it rather than sticking to the clear cut and effeminate sound that GG usually produce.

As is apparent when looking at the album cover and teaser images the main visual theme for this song is a Grey's Anatomy Pink Explosion. The girls wear a variation of bright pink outfits based on surgeons' and nurses attire. This being a k-pop video, they obviously sexed it up a little bit with short tunics, lace and chiffon, leather jackets and high-heeled boots. Accessories included brightly bejewelled earrings, ring and necklaces along with a wide array of other shimmery objects such as the bedazzled glitter-fied heart.

For the dance sequence which takes place in a parking lot (of the hospital? who knows) the girls are donned in an eclectic mix of urban street wear, from leather pants to crop tops to fur coats this scene is representative of the many styles one can potentially spot in the streets of Seoul.

A more literal approach to the masculine theme is taken when the girls break it down in these suits. Fedoras, waistcoats, belts and fitted pants aid in the construction of a solid masculine look which aids in further empowering their strong and sharp dance sequence.

In the scene in which they leave the operating room, again the girls are dressed in an eclectic mix of outfits this time it's more on the chic and dressy side with shimmery mermaid dresses to matte sundresses to a bright red blouse and matching pants number.

For the last dance sequence in the video the girls rock these suit inspired dresses, with cufflinks and bow ties focusing on the masculine 'mr mr' concept, without needing to omit their femininity. And as usual they do not forget to show off the infamous 9 pairs of smooth legs that the girls are widely known for possessing. The girls dance and prance around in shiny black shoes with gold soles.

For the most part of the last sequence you can see that SM pays a little homage to the holy trinity of GG/SNSD, TaeTiSeo or TTS are in clear shot whilst the other members are blurred out with slight light flares to highlight the vocal driving forces of the group; Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun.  I'm sure that I'm not the only one who thought of 'Twinkle' when I realised this, haha.
